Lakefly Writing Contests Open January 4, 2016

Short story fiction:  1500 words or less. Any genre. Theme: Wisconsin Choices
Flash fiction:  500 words or less. Any genre. No theme.
Poetry:  All poems, free verse to formal and everything in between—75 lines max. Theme: Wisconsin Choices
The Jean Nelson Essay for Young Adults: For young adult writers (ages 12 through 17). 2500 words or less. Theme: Notable Wisconsin figure (living or dead) who most inspires me.

Entry fee:

There is no entry fee but authors are limited to one entry per category.

Prizes:

First place winners will receive a cash prize of $100; second place winners will receive $75; and third place winners will receive $50. Winners must be able to attend an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Oshkosh Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Eligibility:

Authors must be residents of Wisconsin, attend school in Wisconsin, or be a registered participant of the 2016 Lakefly Literary Conference. Members of the Lakefly Conference Planning Committee are not eligible to enter.

Submitting your manuscript:

Contest submissions will be accepted starting January 4, 2016.

Entries must be original and unpublished. Self-published or electronically published works are ineligible.

Entrants should include a 100-word biography, written in third person. If entering the Jean Nelson Essay for Young Adults, please include your age.

Mailed Submissons: All entries must be double-spaced; use Times-Roman or Courier, 12-point font. Please include a cover page with your name, mailing address, phone number, email address, the title of your submission, the word count and category of your entry. For subsequent pages, the title needs to be at the top of each page along with the page number. Example: The Dark Night, page 1/3, The Dark Night, page 2/3, etc. No other identifying information should be on your entry.

Contest entries can be mailed to Lakefly Writing Contests, c/o Oshkosh Public Library. 106 Washington Ave., Oshkosh, WI 54901.

Electronic Submissions: Send submissions to LakeflyContests@gmail.dot com In the text box, include your name, mailing address, phone number, email address, the title of your submission, the word count and category of your entry. Attach your submission as a .pdf file. The first page should include the title of your work. For subsequent pages, the title needs to be at the top of each page along with the page number. Example; The Dark Night, page 2/3, etc. No other identifying information should be on your entry.

Entries must be postmarked (or in the case of email, time stamped) by midnight, February 26, 2016. Submissions will not be returned.

Winners will be notified between March 28 and April 8th. Winners must be able to attend an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Oshkosh Public Library.

Winners will receive their awards at a ceremony 6 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Oshkosh Public Library. Winning entries will be posted on the Lakefly Literary Conference website after May 16, 2016.
